President Robert Mugabe has announced that he is going to reshuffle his Cabinet this week.
This comes amid speculation of a fall-out between the country’s two vice presidents, Emmerson Mnangagwa and Phelekezela Mphoko.
Mugabe was addressing the youth wing gathering in Harare.
Mugabe arrived at the youth conference surrounded by his family and the Zanu-PF leadership.
It’s been a tense week in the Zanu PF party with the two Vice Presidents at other’s throats, accusing each other of fanning tensions and disunity.
Vice president Mnangangwa and second vice Mphoko seem to be jostling for power.
But it’s President Mugabe who laid down the rules.
“If there are problems let’s discuss them, not for daily news or the outside world. You should learn politics, good politics, our differences are discussed in-house, and they are ours. They don’t belong to the outside, it’s a shame, a shame even to our legion, our party was not build on that basis, it’s a party of discipline.”
Mugabe continued to make an unexpected announcement.
“There are some amongst us who although they were given positions, and although they are good members of the party, they have not done well. Although we appointed people to certain positions, did they give up the calling of those positions? Next week there might be some changes. I don’t want people to run away but I must also see who has not pulled up or lived up to expectation.” article continues below…
With Mugabe playing his cards close to his chest, it’s not clear who’s likely to face the chop.
However, one thing that is certain is the current spat will have an impact in how Mugabe changes his government.
