Opposition MDC Alliance youth leader and Masvingo Town councillor Godfrey Kurauone has been acquitted of all charges and freed after spending some 40 days in remand prison.
Kurauone, who was facing charges of criminal nuisance and obstructing traffic, was acquitted after the state failed to prove its case in court.
The state was accusing the councillor of posting a video of a song in which he called for immediate removal of President Emmerson Mnangagwa. The state also alleged Kurauone also burnt vehicle tyres along the Mashava-Zvamahande road disrupting the smooth flow of traffic.
He was arrested by officers from the Law and Order Section in Masvingo Town while reporting at the police provincial headquarters in fulfilment of his bail conditions for a similar case.
Party deputy spokesperson Clifford Hlatshwayo told NewZimbabwe they were making efforts to have Kurauone taken to hospital for examination as soon as he bailed out of prison later on Thursday afternoon.
This is after he fell sick while in remand prison two weeks ago and was denied access to doctors by prison officials.
